BIOGRAPHY
Hans Spitzen is a Dutch multi-instrumentalist, composer and music teacher. At the age of seven, he began taking piano lessons, later adding other instruments such as guitar, bass, and flute. After high school, he enrolled at the Zwolle Conservatory (now Artez), started his own teaching practice and played in several bands, most notably the symphonic rock band IRIS. In 2015, he released his first solo album “Fingerprints”. The album was pretty well received in the progressive rock world*.
Since 2016, he has been the guitarist for the band Flamborough Head and co-wrote their 11th album, “Jumping The Milestone,” released in 2022.
September 2025 he independently released his new solo album “ABOUT TIME”, about which he says:
“As the title indicates, I thought it was high time for my second solo album, almost 10 years after the first one, called “Fingerprints”.
Once again it became a time-consuming job because, besides writing the songs, I was also responsible for the bulk of the vocal and instrumental parts during the recording (keyboards, acoustic and electric guitars, bass guitars, steel guitar, Chapman stick, drums). Two guest musicians contributed: Hans Kuypers as a singer on The Curse and Rosalie Vrijhof on the flute on Jumping The Milestone.
The project was put on hold for a while due to my contribution to the album “Jumping The Milestone” by Flamborough Head (2022), but ultimately resulted in a real prog rock record with five long but varied songs. Expect odd time signatures, tempo changes, guitar riffs and solos, lush keyboard parts and orchestral arrangements. All this with a vast dynamic range, which occasionally means shrinking back to almost nothing…”
